The Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes is geographically large and diverse. The diocese includes twenty two parishes in an area occupying half of the state of New South Wales.

Following a two year construction period, Sacred Heart Cathedral in Broken Hill has been the Cathedral for the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes since 1905.

Catholic Education is an important part of the core mission in the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes with twenty Catholic primary and secondary schools across the diocese.
