Carmelite Nuns of the Carmel of Elijah Monastery, Mathoura
The Carmelite Nuns of the Carmel of Elijah Monastery in Mathoura NSW have no participation in local political parties and have never done so.
The claims made the Sydney Morning Herald publication today that several nuns were unwittingly signed up as members of the NSW Liberal Party were first raised in March 2023.
After investigating the matter at the time, the Diocese of Wilcannia Forbes confirmed that the claims had no basis in fact, and the claims are just as untrue today as they were three years ago.
Implications that the Carmelite Nuns in Mathoura are either intentionally involved in political plotting or are naïve victims are highly disrespectful of good women who have freely committed to a life of silence and sacrifice, in prayer for the church and the world.
