As we embark on this sacred journey of Jubilee 2025, we invite all members of our Diocese and the wider community to join us in celebrating this special year of grace and conversion. This Jubilee is a time for prayer, pilgrimage, and sacramental repentance, aimed at inspiring holiness and strengthening the Church’s witness to God’s loving mercy.
Pope Francis opened the Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica on Christmas Eve 2024. He then opened the Holy Doors at the major basilicas of St John Lateran on December 29, St Mary Major on January 1st and St Paul Outside the Walls on January 5th.
On January 2nd 2025, Bishop Columba Macbeth-Green opened the Holy Door of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Broken Hill. This signalled the beginning of the Jubilee Year in the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes.
A Jubilee is a special year of grace and conversion, involving prayer, pilgrimage and sacramental repentance. Through a series of concrete rituals, acts and commitments, the goal of a Jubilee year is to inspire and encourage holiness of life among the faithful and therefore to strengthen the Church’s witness to God’s loving mercy in and for the world.
